Hi, I’m Brittany. (she/her/hers)
Although I spent a majority of my formative years with my nose in a book, winning my third grade class’ Budding Author Award marked the moment I began thinking of myself as writer.
I eventually went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing -as well as a second Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS)– all from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
For nearly a decade I worked as a Youth Services Librarian in the Chicagoland area. I also wrote book reviews for School Library Journal for six years and served a three-year term on the Illinois state Rebecca Caudill Young Readers’ Book Award evaluation committee, as well as lending my expertise to other literary award, review, discussion, and blogging pursuits during my librarianship era.

I currently dedicate my days to various writing projects -namely a realistic young adult novel, as well as personal essays and pieces of memoir on millennial motherhood, sporadic Substack posts about kismet and inspiration, and bursts of songwriting and flash when inspiration strikes.
Please feel free to check out my published work.
I am a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers & Illustrators (SCBWI- Illinois region) and Off Campus Writers’ Workshop (OCWW) and have taken additional courses with Story Studio Chicago, Northwestern School of Professional Studies, and more.
In 2024, I was honored to attend the inaugural R(ev)ise and Shine Retreat and Residency at Boyds Mills’ (formerly the Highlights Foundation) creative campus. There, I worked with award-winning authors, guest faculty and literary agents, and an intimate cohort of like-minded writers to fine-tune the craft elements of my contemporary young adult work-in-progress. In 2025, I further worked on my novel as a writer-in-residence at The Writers’ Colony at Dairy Hollow.
When I’m not reading or writing, you can usually find me chasing after my preschooler (or reading with him when he feels like sitting still), trying a new Chicago restaurant with my husband, pondering one of my favorite podcasts on a walk with my elder puppy, or dreaming up my next travel adventure.
